Search for a Name

Search for a Name

If you are looking for a soldier’s name to see whether this website carries any information about him, this page can be your starting point.

By entering your search data below, you can search the database of names held on this website.

The data returned will give the soldier’s name, his rank, when he died, his age, and the memorial or grave where he is commemorated.

The memorial or grave associated with a name will be linked to the appropriate page on this website, where further information may be available, including photographs of the memorial or grave.

Search the Database

Enter just a single letter or the wildcard character *.

The search will return surnames with forenames beginning with the letter entered. The wildcard * on its own will produce a search for all occurrences of a particular surname.

Enter at least three letters for part of the surname, or enter the complete surname.

Do not use the wildcard character * in this field.

Thus, if searching for Barraclough, you could enter Bar, Barra or Barraclough.

Output data on surnames is limited to 15 characters. Surnames with more than 15 characters will therefore be truncated.

The database contains information relating to the men of The Yorkshire Regiment who served during the First World War.

The website is extremely grateful to Toby Wallis Communications for help in setting up the pages required to search the database of names, memorials, graves and photographs.
